Scotland

Scottish domiciled students can access postgraduate student funding comprising a maximum combined tuition fee and living cost support loan of £10,000. Eligible students will be taking their first master’s or postgraduate diploma course. Part-time students can access only the tuition fee loan. Eligible courses would receive the following –

  • One year taught postgraduate diploma and master’s courses – a tuition fee loan of £5,500 and living cost loan of £4,500.
  • Two year part-time postgraduate diploma and master’s courses – a tuition fee loan of £2,750 per year.
  • Two year full-time master’s courses or postgraduate diplomas – a tuition fee loan of £2,750 per year and a living cost loan of £2,250 per year.
  • Three year part-time master’s courses – a tuition fee loan of £1,833 in years one & two with £1,834 in year 3.

EU citizens who have been resident in Scotland for three or more years (not for the purposes of full-time education) and have settled or pre-settled status may be eligible for home fee status and living cost support. Please consult the SAAS website for further information.

Support for distance learning postgraduate students

Online (distance learning) students can also access the postgraduate loan set out above. Full-time distance learners will be able to access the £4,500 living cost loan in addition to the £5,500 tuition fee loan. Part-time distance learners will be able to access the tuition fee loan as long as they register to complete the course in no more than twice the length of the full-time course.

PGDE in Home Economics

This course has a different funding arrangement to other postgraduate courses and is supported by SAAS through undergraduate funding arrangements.

England

English domiciled students can access a loan of £10,609 for their first master’s course to be studied anywhere in the UK. This can cover one and two year taught postgraduate courses.

From 2018 onwards English students undertaking a two year pre-registration master’s course in an Allied Health Profession can access the undergraduate funding package. This funding can be used for study anywhere in the UK.

Welsh domiciled students can access a loan of £5500 for their first master’s course to be studied anywhere in the UK. This can cover one and two year taught postgraduate courses.

Republic of Ireland

Tuition Fees

The Scottish Government has confirmed that postgraduate students from the Republic of Ireland who commence their studies in 2023/22 will have the same fee status as students from the UK, including Scotland. This means that students from the Republic of Ireland commencing a postgraduate course from 2023/22 can access the tuition fee element of the postgraduate loan available from SAAS, currently £5500.

Irish citizens who have been resident in Scotland for three or more years (not for the purposes of full-time education) may be eligible for home student status and therefore can access the full postgraduate loan. Please consult the SAAS website for further information.

International Students

Graduate 10% Discount Scheme

Queen Margaret University is offering a 10% discount in postgraduate tuition fees for alumni who have graduated with an undergraduate degree from the University’s Edinburgh campus. This discount is available for students who register for a full or part-time postgraduate degree.

This discount applies to home, EU and overseas students, and applies to the self-funding element of the postgraduate tuition fee only. This discount does not apply to any part of the tuition fee which is covered by a scholarship, funding body, your employer, a company, or any another source of funding.
