1. Job Title: Geomatics Coordinator

The Parks Canada Agency is established as a separate employer in the Federal Public Service under the Financial Administration Act. Persons appointed to the Agency continue to be part of the Public Service. Duties

Duties will include, but not be limited to, developing, managing and implementing geomatics tools and products. The successful candidate will have experience in acquiring, evaluating and processing data, conducting GIS analysis and producing GIS products tailored to specific audiences.

Work environment

Parks Canada is a federal government agency responsible for the protection and presentation of Canada’s outstanding natural and cultural resources through a system of national parks, national marine conservation areas and national historic sites in all regions of Canada. The Western Newfoundland and Labrador Field Unit is comprised of three national parks (Gros Morne National Park, Torngat Mountains National Park, and Akami-uapisku – KakKasuak – Mealy Mountains National Park Reserve) and four national historic sites.

The Resource Conservation team is responsible for delivering programs that include ecological integrity monitoring, active management of ecosystems, species at risk protection and recovery, environmental impact assessment, environmental protection, and ecological restoration. Resource Conservation staff also support the field unit in such activities as research permitting, providing scientific advice and support to park managers, working with external partners, and contributing to visitor programs and incident response operations.

Intent of the process

Western Newfoundland and Labrador Field Unit is looking for someone to lead geomatics including mapping, spatial analysis and data management support services to all field unit program areas.

Education:
Graduation with a diploma from a recognized university or college with specialization in geomatics, geography, cartography or other discipline relevant to geomatics, or have an acceptable combination of education, training and experience in GIS and data management.

* Preference may be given to candidates who have a Masters or Ph.D from a recognised post-secondary institution.

Degree equivalency

Ex1 Experience using GIS (ESRI ArcGIS, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Server, ArcMap).

A/Ex1: Experience batch processing geospatial data using Python programming.

A/Ex5: Experience designing and implementing custom web-mapping applications.
A/Ex6: Experience running and analyzing spatial statistics using Python or R.

Willingness to wear a Parks Canada uniform and prescribed protective equipment.

Willingness to work irregular hours, overtime, weekends and/or statutory holidays and provincial/territorial holidays, when required.

Willingness to complete training provided by Parks Canada and participate in cross-functional programs and operations (e.g. compliance, emergency response, quality visitor experience).
