Job Description
As Junior GIS Officer working in the Head Office, her/his responsibility shall include but not limited to the following:
• Gather, compile, migrate, and convert data from both internal and external sources and evaluate data quality and reliability.
• Digitizes contextual information when necessary, and ensures that there are no typological errors in the data.
• Conduct detailed field mapping for areas under detailed surveys in support of the research team.
• Maintains metadata that documents information about the internal dataset, and ensures proper projections are used.
• Support E&V local offices/branches in collecting data, analysis, and communication/delivery, which includes performing spatial analysis (vector analysis/geoprocessing/attribute field calculations when necessary.
• Generate maps that illustrate conditions of E&V’s areas of intervention or of potential new intervention areas, as well as maps that illustrate updates to E&V’s • Support the organization in upskilling E&V staff with the use of GIS software/s.
• Contribute to updating the organization manual regarding GIS.
• Support ROs in pre ocular stage of development.
• Support Wamasys related work as designated by DA/GIS Supervisor
II. Applicant profile
Education:
• Bachelor’s degree in Geography, Geodetic Engineering, Geology, Geomatics Engineering, Information Technology or other related field
Experience:
• Not required but an advantage. Open to fresh graduates in the related filed.
Experience/Training/Proficiencies:
• Demonstrated proficiency in utilizing GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS/QGIS/Manifold GIS) for data management, analysis, and interpretation.
• Knowledge in cartographic design and production
• Relevant experience in database management, administration, and/or utilization of various GIS software/applications is preferred but not required.
• Knowledge or experience in utilizing SQL queries in a GIS environment is a plus • Knowledge of Openstreetmap (contribution and data extraction) is a plus.
Other characteristics or skills:
• You have an inquisitive mind that asks questions to probe or delve further into a question.
• You have exceptional research, analysis, and problem-solving skills.
• You can work with a close-knit team from different backgrounds and cultures.
• Demonstrated strong proficiency in written and verbal communication in English.
