Brief description of the scholarship

Each year, Rotary selects up to 130 leaders in peace and development from around the world to receive fully funded academic fellowships to pursue a Professional Development Certificate Program or Masters Degree Program in peace and conflict resolution and prevention at one of the participating peace centers worldwide (USA, Japan, UK, Australia, Sweden, Thailand, Uganda). Host Institutions for Fully-Funded Rotary Peace Fellowships

• Duke University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, both in the United States of America: Master of International Development Policy (MIDP) programs at Duke University and numerous degrees offered at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

• Master’s Degree in Peace Studies from International Christian University in Japan

• Advanced Practice in Peacebuilding and Conflict Resolution MA, University of Bradford, England

• Master of Peace and Conflict Studies, University of Queensland, Australia (MPACS)

• Uppsala University, Sweden: Studies in Peace and Conflict (MS.Sc.)

• Chulalongkorn University, Thailand (certificate program): Peace and Development Studies Professional Development Certificate (PgCert)

• Uganda’s Makerere University (certificate program)

All these institutions offer the Fully-Funded Rotary Peace Fellowships

Important Note: Fellowship awardees are not eligible to attend a Rotary Peace Center in their native country, with the exception of Thai candidates who may attend the center at Chulalongkorn University and Ugandan candidates who may attend the center at Makerere University.

Levels/fields of study:

Programs of professional development or master’s degrees in disciplines connected to peace and conflict resolution and prevention are available in the Fully-Funded Rotary Peace Fellowships

Group aimed at:

Anyone who has been endorsed by their Rotary District.

Scholarships Awarded:

Each year, up to 50 master’s degree fellowships and 80 certificate fellowships are offered by the Fully-Funded Rotary Peace Fellowships.

The scholarship’s worth/inclusions:

Tuition and fees, lodging and board, round-trip transportation, and all internship and field study expenses are covered by the Fully-Funded Rotary Peace Fellowships.

Eligibility:

The Rotary Peace Fellowship is intended for professionals with experience working in international relations, peace and conflict prevention and resolution, or related fields. Additionally, applicants must meet the following requirements:

• Three years of related job experience is required for admission to the master’s program.

• Have five years of similar job experience and be able to articulate how their proposal to promote peace is consistent with Rotary’s goal. (Candidates for Makerere University must be African, have worked in Africa, or be involved in African communities or activities on the continent.)

• Be able to communicate well in English

• Be a holder of a bachelor’s degree

• Exhibit leadership abilities

• Demonstrate a strong commitment to intercultural understanding and peace through work in Africa or through collaboration with African communities or initiatives outside the continent.

Candidates must submit applications to their Rotary district by 15 May 2023. By 1 July 2023, districts must submit endorsed proposals to The Rotary Foundation.
