Melinda Gates and Bill Gates, co-founders of Microsoft, are two of the world’s most active philanthropists. In 2017, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation launched its scholarship program.

 It has since grown to be among the most distinguished minority and merit-based scholarships offered globally.

 Every year, 300 low-income high school seniors are chosen for the Bill Gates Scholarship, which covers the whole cost of their undergraduate education.  

Around 3,000 minority kids have received college scholarships thanks to the Bill and Melinda Gates Scholarship, the initiative’s founders.

How to Qualify for Bill Gates Scholarship

To qualify for the Gates Scholarship is not as easy as may think. Hence there are eligibility criteria you have to meet or fulfill, to qualify for the Bill Gates Scholarship.

As a candidate, you must fulfill the following criteria:

1. The candidate must be a senior in high school.
2. African-American, American Indian/Alaska Native*, Asian & Pacific Islander American, and/or Hispanic American are the only acceptable ethnicities for applicants.

3. The candidate must be a citizen, national, or legal resident of the US.
4. As a candidate, you must be eligible for a Pell Grant.
5. There must be no additional grants or family support being provided to the candidate.
6. The applicant must have excellent academic status, defined as a GPA of 3.3 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
7. The candidate must intend to enroll in an American four-year university.  

Document Required for the Gates Scholarship

Additionally, once the Gates Scholarship opens Officially, the following document must be submitted by the applicant before he/she part of the application:

1. A copy of your most current transcript (this will be submitted by your high school counselor)
2. Once you have submitted the FAFSA and received a Student Aid Report (SAR).
3. A letter of financial aid award
4. Admission letter for a four-year bachelor’s program at a nonprofit, for-profit, or public university CSS profile
5. Your headshot photo
6. A copy of your Resume

The Gates Scholarship Admission Stages

The Bill Gates Scholarship application procedure consists of two stages. Any prospective applicant who satisfies the fundamental eligibility standards described above is eligible to apply for Phase I, which opens earlier.

The Gates scholarship committee primarily disqualifies candidates in this area, which accounts for the infamously low Gates Scholarship acceptance rate. Only the semi-finalists were chosen from Phase I are eligible for the application’s later Phase II.
