1. Observe Your Options Very Well
Before submitting an application, make sure you are familiar with the University’s admissions policies and the requirements for the various faculties.
You may only submit one application as a postgraduate applicant to each program. Please go to www.sun.ac.za/pgstudies and click on “what can I study?” Alternatively, you can contact our Contact and Client Service Center at +27 (0) 21 808 9111 or info@sun.ac.za.
2. Write Down the Application Deadlines
The closing dates for all postgraduate programs are listed at (www.sun.ac.za/pgstudies). The Postgraduate Office’s website lists the deadlines for financial aid. Late applications may not be accepted.
For Online Applications Electronic
Applying online at www.sun.ac.za/pgstudies requires a working email address and mobile phone number. Email and text messages to the cell phone will be used for correspondence.
- Once you’ve submitted a formal online application, you’ll get an 8-digit password and a username (your student number) to complete the application process.
- The red “Outstanding” buttons on all mandatory screens must be clicked. Only after ALL mandatory screens have been completed (a green “Completed” button will be shown) will the “submit” button be accessible.
- Please be sure the data you submit is accurate. The University has the right to reject your application or immediately revoke your registration if the provided information is inaccurate.
- Data won’t be lost in the event of an electrical blackout, and the application can still be finished before the deadline.
- Once you’ve finished all the required screens, press the “Submit” button.
- Your official SUN password and assigned username (student number) are now available for you to examine your application status, upload all of your supporting application materials, and keep track of your application.
- Before the deadline, you must upload all necessary supporting documents via the upload application documents link on www.sun.ac.za/pgstudies to complete your application. Only after your application has been finished will it be processed. If all required application materials are not uploaded by the deadline, your application will not be reviewed.
- Even after submitting a comprehensive application and fulfilling the prerequisites, entrance is not guaranteed.

The Hard Copy Applications
- We advise you to apply online, if you do not have access to the internet, you may fill out a paper application. The Contact and Client Service Center at 021 808 9111 or info@sun.ac.za may provide you with a hard copy application form.
- If you use a paper application, make sure to fill out all the required fields and enclose any supporting documentation. If we don’t have all the necessary information, we can’t take your application into account. Before the closing date, your application form and supporting documentation must be received by us.
- Please refrain from submitting your application both online and on paper. We can only accept the online application as the intended one if we receive both sorts of applications from you.
- Ensure that all necessary documents are uploaded.
