NSFAS Bursary Application 2023

National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) Application for 2023 is out. NSFAS ough students to apply this Funding / Bursaries Programme for the 2023 academic year.

NSFAS applications will be open from 2 November 2023 and close on 07 /03/ 2023 when the NSC results are released.

Who qualifies for NSFAS funding?

Students qualify to get NSFAS funding if they are a South African citizen or permanent resident who plans on registering or already studying at a public university or TVET college in South Africa and they will fall within one or more of the below categories:

• SASSA grant recipients (the SASSA COVID-19 grant does not count);
• Persons whose combined household income is not more than R350 000 per year;
• Persons living with disabilities with a combined household income not more than R600 000 per annum.
• The correct supporting documents are important in ensuring that NSFAS process your funding application in time for your registration at an institution of higher learning.

Students must go through the list of required supporting documents that I will mention to ensure that they have all of them before they start with the application process:

1. All applicants must provide a copy of ID. A temporary ID issued by the Department of Home Affairs will be accepted;
2. Non-SASSA applicants must provide ID copies of parent/s, legal guardian/guardian or spouse;
3. Smart ID cards: a copy with both sides of the smart ID must be provided;
4. Proof of income: applicant and/or parents/legal guardian/spouse (where applicable (non-
5. SASSA) should provide latest payslip not older 3 months, UIF letter, appointment letter, retrenchment letter (applicant and/or parent(s), legal guardian/spouse).
6. It must be noted that no affidavits will be accepted as proof for any funding requirement.

What does the bursary cover?

UNIVERSITY

• Accommodation

As per the actual costs charged by the university (costs for private accommodation must not exceed costs for university residence)

• Transport (up to 40 km from the institution) R7 500  per annum
• Living allowance R15, 000  per annum
• Book allowances R5200 per annum
• Incidental/personal care allowance R2900 per annum for students in catered residences

TVET

• Accommodation in an urban area R24,000 per annum
• Accommodation in a peri-urban area R18,900 per annum
• Accommodation in a rural area R15,750 per annum
• Transport (up to 40 km from the institution) R7,350  per annum
• Transport R7000 per annum
• Incidental/personal care allowance R2900 per annum

How to Apply NSFAS Bursary Application 2023

You will need to first register for a myNSFAS account and submit your application online. CLICK HERE for instructions on how to create a myNSFAS account and thereafter CLICK HERE to go to the myNSFAS portal to create an account.

Once your myNSFAS account is set up and functional, follow these simple steps and submit your application:

• Step 1: Click on the ‘APPLY’ tab and complete the sections on the screen by providing the required information
• Step 2: Upload required supporting documents where applicable
• Step 3: Click on ‘Submit’

And just like that, your NSFAS funding application has been submitted.
