What is the NBT test?

The National Benchmark Test is known as NBT. The National Benchmark Test Project organised this test. The NBT is a collection of exams designed to gauge a learner’s academic preparedness for higher education by evaluating their academic literacy, general knowledge, and mathematical ability.

The Alternative Admissions Research Project at the University of Cape Town oversees the administration of the NBT exams, which were introduced in 2008.

Many universities utilise NBT results as an additional selection factor when considering applications. Instead of replacing or duplicating NSC results, they support and complement such results.

When Can I Write My NBT Test?

Each university and department will have different requirements for when you need to write your NBT test. Some might be as early as June or July. This is one reason the NBT is so confusing!

Our top piece of advice is to choose a date that fits in with your application requirements AND is when you can give it the attention it deserves (i.e. check your school calendar to ensure you don’t have other important school events in that week).

Data by the NBT suggests that learners who write the tests later in the year have no advantage over those writing in earlier sessions. The test changes as the year progresses in order to maintain the validity of the test.

The School must receive the National Benchmark Test scores before closing date. Scoring of the NBT takes approximately 4 weeks.

How Do I Pay?

EasyPay must pay for all NBT fees. To make a payment, go to a nearby EasyPay Paypoint with your NBT registration letter. You can also make a payment at http://www.easypay.co.za/ and print your receipt afterwards. Before being allowed to take the tests, you must present both the letter and the receipt.

All around South Africa, you may find EasyPay Paypoints at various merchant locations and grocery stores including Pick ‘n Pay, ShopRite, Checkers, and Spar.
