How to Apply CAO Online Application 2027
The Central Applications Office (CAO) has opened its online application portal for the 2027 academic year, serving as the centralized application system for multiple universities and TVET colleges across South Africa. This streamlined process allows prospective students to apply to up to six institutions simultaneously through a single application, significantly simplifying what was once a complex and time-consuming procedure. The CAO system caters to both school-leavers and mature students seeking undergraduate qualifications at participating institutions in KwaZulu-Natal and beyond.
To complete your CAO application for 2027, you’ll need to create an account on the official CAO website (www.cao.ac.za), where you’ll receive a unique CAO number for tracking purposes. The application requires submission of certified copies of your ID, Grade 11 final results (or Grade 12 June results if available), and any additional documents specific to your chosen programs. Applicants should carefully select their six program choices in order of preference, keeping in mind each institution’s minimum admission requirements and career aspirations. The CAO offers different application periods, with significant cost savings for those who apply before the early bird deadline of 31 October 2025.
The CAO system provides numerous benefits for 2027 applicants, including application status tracking, the ability to amend choices during specified periods, and comprehensive support through their helpdesk. Prospective students should note that while the CAO facilitates the application process, admission decisions remain with the individual institutions. With the growing competition for tertiary placements, applicants are strongly encouraged to submit their applications well before the final deadline of 31 January 2027 to ensure their documents are processed timeously and to maximize their chances of securing a spot at their preferred institution.
