Bursary Details
PhD students are invited to apply for the Bongani Mayosi National Health Scholars Programme. The programme is an initiative of the National Health Research Committee (NHRC).
Students in these specialised fields may apply for the programme:
- Biostatics
- Data Science
- Demography
- Digital health
- Epidemology
- Genomics/Bioinformatics
- Health Economics
- Immunology
- Nursing
The scholarship does not have a set value, as it is determined by how much the government is willing to pay the candidate if they were to be employed full time with their current qualifications.

Candidate Requirements
- South African citizen
- must have completed a MBChB or Masters qualification
- Full time registered PhD student
- registered at a South African university
- Have an approved and official PhD research proposal
