Ikhala TVET College Application Form 2027
Ikhala TVET College offers a wide range of nationally recognized programs tailored to meet the needs of students looking for both academic advancement and practical skills. The college’s courses fall into two main categories: National Certificate (Vocational) or NC(V), and NATED or Report 191 programs. Each stream serves different educational needs. The NC(V) programs are designed for students who have completed Grade 9 and wish to pursue a vocational pathway. These include three-year programs in Engineering and Related Design, Information Technology and Computer Science, Office Administration, Finance, Economics and Accounting, Hospitality, and Tourism. Each of these NC(V) programs includes fundamental subjects such as English and Life Orientation, alongside specialized subjects that build hands-on skills.
The NATED programs, on the other hand, are structured for students who have passed Grade 12 and are looking to further their education in technical fields or business. These programs typically follow a trimester or semester model and include theoretical and practical components that often culminate in an internship requirement. Fields available in the NATED stream include Business Management, Human Resource Management, Public Management, Marketing Management, and Electrical Engineering. These courses are designed with the job market in mind, and they focus on preparing students for employment directly after completing their studies. Ikhala TVET College continues to revise its curriculum in response to industry demands, ensuring graduates are equipped for current and emerging sectors.
NSFAS Funding: Access to Education
A major support system for students at Ikhala TVET College is NSFAS—the National Student Financial Aid Scheme. For many young South Africans, affordability is the single greatest barrier to accessing post-school education. Recognizing this, Ikhala TVET College works closely with NSFAS to ensure qualifying students receive the financial support they need. NSFAS covers tuition fees, accommodation, transport, meals, and learning materials for students who meet the criteria. To apply, students must complete both the college application form and a separate NSFAS application online via the NSFAS portal.
Eligibility for NSFAS is based on academic performance and financial need, primarily targeting students from households with a combined annual income of less than R350,000. In addition to funding, NSFAS also helps students focus on their studies without the pressure of part-time work or financial stress. Applications for NSFAS typically open in the final quarter of the year prior to enrollment, and students are strongly advised to apply as early as possible. Ikhala TVET College often hosts NSFAS information sessions and provides support to students during the application process, making it easier to understand requirements and submit the necessary documents.
Campus Life and Student Experience
Campus life at Ikhala TVET College is designed to support holistic student development. With campuses located across the Eastern Cape—such as Ezibeleni, Queenstown, Aliwal North, Queen Nonesi, and Sterkspruit—each site offers a unique environment while sharing the same quality of education and institutional values. Students can expect clean, secure facilities with lecture rooms, computer labs, workshops, and libraries. The college also hosts events that celebrate culture, sports, academic achievement, and student talent. These extracurricular activities allow students to develop leadership and social skills that complement their academic journey.
Accommodation may be available for students, especially those from rural or remote areas. Where residence space is limited, the college helps guide students in finding safe, affordable private accommodation near the campuses. On-site student support services include academic advisors, counselors, and mentorship programs. Health and wellness initiatives, HIV/AIDS education, and career development workshops are all part of the college’s efforts to support student well-being. The Student Representative Council (SRC) plays an important role in voicing student concerns, organizing events, and ensuring that student rights are upheld.
Career Opportunities After Graduation
One of the strongest advantages of attending Ikhala TVET College is the employability of its graduates. The college’s mission is closely aligned with the national strategy of reducing youth unemployment through skills development. Graduates from Ikhala TVET College often enter the workforce more quickly than those with general academic degrees because their training is directly applicable to the job market. For instance, students from the Electrical Engineering program may find work in municipal infrastructure, maintenance services, or start their own small business. Those with a qualification in Business Management or Marketing can join companies in administrative roles or entrepreneurial ventures.
Ikhala TVET College also assists students with job readiness programs, including interview preparation, CV writing, and workplace etiquette training. Many of the programs include work-integrated learning, where students complete internships or apprenticeships before they graduate. This exposure not only boosts confidence but also creates a direct link between classroom learning and real-world expectations. Alumni of the college have gone on to build successful careers in both the private and public sectors, and some have returned to share their success stories with current students, reinforcing a culture of achievement and possibility.
