To access or have their SRD grant application taken into consideration, an applicant must provide Sassa permission to verify their identity, place of residence, income, or social security benefits.

The declaration and consent must also be accepted by applicants.
A new application under the revised Act is encouraged for current beneficiaries.

Once you’ve submitted an application, you won’t need to do it again.

Applicants are asked to submit just one application, rather than several applications across many platforms.
You will get confirmation as soon as the application has been submitted correctly.

All SRD grant applications received by the 15th of the month must then be approved or rejected by Sassa. The recipients will then get an SMS telling them if they were accepted or not.

The following reasons could be the cause of this:

You require assistance both because a crisis or disaster has occurred and while you wait for the processing of your children’s awards (e.g. your house has burnt down).

You are in a severe situation, ineligible for a grant, and unable to work for more than six months due to a medical condition.

Additionally, the fact that you are unable to receive maintenance payments from the other parent of your kid or children as a result of the loss of the family’s primary provider or the recipient’s brief incarceration (less than six months).

You have been impacted by a disaster, but your neighborhood or community has not been designated as a disaster area.

What Do you Get After Application?

Providing food in the form of a food parcel or a food voucher is considered Social Relief from Distress. Some provinces provide this help in the form of money.

Only a brief period of time—typically up to three months, which may be extended for an additional three months—is allocated for social distress relief.

What You Should do

Apply for social relief of distress at your nearest South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) office.

Submit your application with the following documents:

Birth certificates for your children as well as your 13-digit bar-coded identity paper.

If a birth certificate or your identity papers are unavailable:
a commissioned affidavit from a Justice of the Peace.

A sentence stating that providing false or misleading information will result in legal action under Section 21 of the Social Assistance Act of 2004 must be included in the affidavit.

Also a sworn declaration from an authority figure who is familiar with the petitioner and the child. This could be from a council member, traditional figurehead, social worker, or religious leader.

Please Note:

Without the sworn statement/affidavit, no application can be processed. If you don’t have a birth certificate or identity document, you might be able to prove your claim with an affidavit from the police chief, local police station, council member, or religious leader.
