What you should do if your phone gets wet.
Let’s be honest, It’s one of our worst fears. You dropped your phone in the bath (or, worse, the toilet), jumped into the pool with it in your pocket, or got it wet while walking in the rain. Water damage is not covered by the warranty, and all of your photos and conversations could be lost in that split second! In some people, this is enough to cause a minor heart attack.
Here are tips for saving your drowning phone.
1. Immediately remove it from the water.
It may seem self-evident, but you may believe that it is already too late and that it is not worth the effort. However, every second counts, and you could still be able to save your phone if you’re lucky.
2. Deactivate the device
When your phone falls into water, it will almost always switch off automatically, but if it doesn’t, turn it off or remove the battery to shut it down immediately. It will be protected from short circuits as a result of this.
3. Remove the battery from the phone.
If your cell phone, such as an iPhone, does not allow you to remove the battery, skip this step. However, if removing the phone’s battery is possible, do it immediately. It will assist to keep the phone from overheating. You’ll cut off the energy source and prevent additional damage if you remove it.
4. Remove all peripherals, including the SIM and memory cards.
Remove any coverings or plugs that are covering the phone’s gaps and slots. Use a microfiber cloth or a towel to dry your phone (paper is not suggested because the particles can block the phone’s gaps).
5. Put it in a vacuum.
In this manner, you can get any water stuck in the slots and hard-to-reach places. Put the phone in a plastic bag and vacuum it. It will suck the liquid out of the phone.
6. Place it in a rice or absorbent bowl.
You can’t reach inside the phone to dry it with a napkin, so you’ll need something absorbent, like uncooked rice. Fill a rice dish with the phone and all its parts.
7. Turn it on…and cross your fingers
Although professionals warn that dropping a phone in water may cause damage, we at Bright Side are always hopeful and believe in a positive conclusion.
Allow your phone to dry for two days and resist the impulse to turn it on because a single water particle inside will negate all your efforts. Success!
