1. Step 1. Confirm Eligibility

Applicants must meet the following fundamental qualifying standards:

1. The year you enrol in West Point, you must be at least 17 years old but not quite 23.

2. American national (See Information for International Cadets for exceptions)

4. not a mother

5. Not required by law to pay child support

2. Step 2. Gather Personal Information

Also, for your application to be complete, you will require the following information:

1. The social security number you have

2. Your results on the ACT, SAT, PSAT, or PLAN (Pre-ACT)

3. Also, with your zip code in 9 characters (Find zip+4)

4. The ETS code for your high school

5. The location of your high school

6. Congressional District you are in

3. Step 3. Apply Online

However, to start the West Point application process, complete the Candidate Questionnaire (CQ). Also, to determine whether candidates are eligible, we use the CQ. 

Therefore, the application period for juniors in high school begins on February 1. Open a file as soon as you can.

Within 24 to 48 hours, all qualified candidates get an email with their West Point Candidate Portal credentials.

If after 48 hours you still haven’t received an email, check your spam folder.

4. Step 4. Connect with our Field Force

Members of the West Point Field Force serve as the U.S. Military Academy’s local volunteer admissions advocates. However, field Force personnel are quite helpful when through the West Point application process.

5. Step 5. Apply for a Nomination

To enrol in West Point, you need to be nominated. Therefore, there are two: Congressional (your Representative or a Senator from your State) and Service-Connected. However, the year you begin college, nominations are required.

6. Step 6. Get a Medical Examination

However, the location and date of your examination will be announced by the Department of Defense Medical Examination Review Board (DoDMERB). Therefore, it’s helpful to track your medical status on the DoDMERB website.

Tip: Get checked out as soon as you can! Accreditation may take several months. Also, by the fall of your senior year of high school, if DoDMERB hasn’t scheduled you, get in touch with your local admissions officer.

7. Step 7. Take the Candidate Fitness Assessment

An email referring to qualified applicants we will send to the CFA Testing Instructions to them. There are six CFA events:

1. Basketball throw (from a kneeling position)

2. Cadence pull-ups or flexed-arm hang (women’s option)

3. 40-yard shuttle run (for time)

4. Changed Sit-ups (number completed in 2 minutes)

5. Push-ups (number completed in 2 minutes)

6. 1-mile run (for time)

8. Step 8. Take College Entrance Exams

Tests like the SAT, ACT, or PSAT must be timed. “ACT Plus Writing” should be chosen while registering for the ACT.

What GPA do you Need to Get into United States Military Academy?

However, most applicants to the United States Military Academy are “A-” average high school students with a GPA of roughly 3.9. Also, most first-year students graduate in the top 25% of their high school class.

How Hard is it to Get into the US Military Academy?

However, the National Centre for Education Statistics reports that 41,989 applicants for the Class of 2023 submitted applications to the five military schools. 

Nevertheless, there are only a little over 4,100 places open each year. Therefore, this places the overall admission percentage for the Service Academy at 9.8%.

Character Development

However, the mission statement of the Academy clarifies that moral and ethical growth is a crucial component of the 47-month West Point experience. 

Therefore, to uphold the West Point motto “Responsibility, Honor, Country” and the principles of the seven Army Values—loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honour, integrity, and personal courage—personal character is stressed.

The Class applicants are subject to the “test flexible” policy of the Office of Admissions. Students may submit PSAT, SAT, or ACT writing portions. 

Therefore, the PSAT may be chosen by students in place of the SAT or ACT, with no justification being required on their part. Also, a timed writing sample may be requested from students who take the PSAT or SAT.
