John Bryan Bowman found the university as the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Kentucky in 1865. It is one of only two land-grant universities in Kentucky (the other is Kentucky State University).

GPA Requirements for UK Admissions

To be admitted to Kentucky, applicants must have received excellent grades in high school.

The University of Kentucky’s admitted freshmen class had an average high school GPA of 3.56 on a 4.0 scale, showing that mostly B+ students are accepted and ultimately enroll.

The university has the eighth-highest average GPA in Kentucky. If your high school grades are better than the normal 3.56 GPA, you have a very good chance of being admitted because Kentucky accepts 96% of applicants.

SAT Requirements for UK Admissions

The University of Kentucky typically prefers the top 47% of SAT test takers. Below 1070 on a scale of 1600, the school routinely accepts SAT composite scores, and they should see admission as a stretch.

We predict that some students with SAT scores as low as 960 would be accepted. For freshmen accepted, the average SAT composite score is 1180 out of 1600.

Kentucky has the third-highest average SAT composite score in the state. 21% of candidates provide their SAT results to the institution.

ACT Requirements for UK Admissions

According to admissions data, Kentucky consistently accepts students with ACT scores of 22 and higher. Successful candidates often submit ACT scores that are in the top 37% in the nation.

We believe that sometimes, the minimum ACT composite score accepted by the school is around 18.

Students who submit an ACT composite of 26 or above should be in the top half of applicants, and those with a score of 29 or higher have excellent odds.

The school has the third-highest average ACT composite score in Kentucky. Since 89 percent of the University of Kentucky candidates submit their ACT scores, performing well on the test is crucial.
