Sometimes, after admission comes a subtle phobia about survival in college. Staying safe in college can be a very challenging thing to do with such exposure and population. Moreover, if your school has a low ranking in safety, there are more reasons to be cautious.
However, it is possible to avoid trouble with some easy measures. Your safety largely depends on you. Here are some tips for staying safe in college:
Know Your Surroundings
Indeed, the school environment is significant most of the time and may be complex. However, you should bring time to explore with your friends and become familiar with the environment.
In times of danger, you’ll know where you can run to and where to locate specific points on campus. Also, in any place you find yourself, you should be able to find your way around.
Never Cut Communication
Always move around with a cellphone. It’s easy to imagine this is not a problem as every student always have their cellphones. However, it’s not always about taking pictures or chatting.
Learn how to reach out and make a phone call in emergencies.
Lock Your Doors
Never leave your door open, even if you’re in a hurry. Always lock the doors to your hostel and lock your important stuff in a box. Also, keep a spare key around you so that you won’t end up stranded.
Reduce Your Outings
Reduce the level of outings, parties, and social events you attend. The more you hang out, the more your exposure. Try to come home before you go for an outing before it darkens.
Also, reduce the level of alcohol you take when you go for such outings. Never get drunk, as you’ll be helpless in an emergency.
