Most Holy Cross-institutional support is based on need, however, some students who meet the requirements may also be eligible for a small number of merit-based scholarships.

In addition to being among the most gifted applicants to Holy Cross each year, Magis Scholarship awardees have distinguished themselves in their schools and communities as top students, role models for citizenship, and leaders.

Magis, which is Latin for “more,” expresses the Jesuit call to delve further, strive for excellence, and make room for attentiveness.

Faber Scholarship (new for the Class of 2024): Each year, students who have been discovered via the admissions process are given Faber Scholarships in appreciation of their outstanding academic performance, dedication to responsible personal development, and financial need.

Holy Cross Merit Scholarship: A student’s eligibility for a merit-based award is determined by the admissions procedure.

As long as winners continue to make significant academic progress and keep up a respectable disciplinary record, Holy Cross Merit Scholarships are renewed for an additional four years.

Holy Cross Tuition Grant

Based on financial need as shown through the financial aid application process, Holy Cross Grant eligibility is decided. Each year, funding for Holy Cross Grants is given to close to 450 first-year students.

Depending on financial need, grants might vary from $2,500 to more than $60,000 in value. Holy Cross Grant applicants must reapply each year. This award will ideally be renewed annually, but it may vary depending on demonstrated need.

Federal Pell Grants: For the 2022–2023 academic year, the Pell Grant is a government-supported program with grants ranging from $692 to $6,895. Using a federal need analysis, students’ eligibility for this program is assessed.

Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants (SEOG): According to government need assessments, SEOG is a federal grant program for students who are considered to have extraordinary financial needs.

Federal Pell Grant participants receive preference for the limited funding from this program that goes to Holy Cross.

Holy Cross Tuition Work Study

A federally funded employment program called Federal Work-Study places qualified students in part-time jobs on campus. You might make up to $1,800 in your first year if you receive a work-study authorization as part of your financial aid package.

The hours you’ve worked will be directly paid to you each week. Your student account does not receive these monies to offset direct charges, tuition, room, and board, or other costs.

They are meant to assist you in covering indirect costs including books, travel, and personal expenses.

Holy Cross Tuition Loan

Via federally subsidized programs, you can borrow money to assist with paying for college. They typically provide flexible repayment arrangements with low-interest rates.

A long-term, low-interest educational loan offered to students is the Federal Direct Loan. The federal government directly provides loan capital. The guarantee is also provided by the federal government.

The Federal Direct Subsidized Loan and the Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan are the two different varieties of this loan.

Your loan can be subsidized, meaning the federal government will pay the interest on the loan for as long as you are enrolled in school if your FAFSA demonstrates that you have a demonstrated need for financial assistance.

You can still borrow up to your full eligibility under the Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan Program even if you do not meet the requirements for the subsidy based on need. In this scheme, interest will accrue (accumulate) while you are a student and is not subsidized.

You can choose to pay the interest now while you’re still in school or postpone it and let it go toward your principal balance. Principal repayment will start six months after you graduate or stop enrolling at least half-time, whichever comes first.

A university loan program grants fixed-interest loans to students who can show they need the money.

The College manages the program with a finite number of funds available each year, and the Office of Financial Aid awards the loan based on demonstrated financial need. As a result of the Federal Perkins Loan Program’s demise, this loan was established.

The value of the opportunities and high-quality education it offers much outweighs the sometimes intimidating tuition expense.
