UMaT: Admission Guide for 2023/2024

UMaT (University of Mines and Technology) admission is open for the 2023/2024 academic year, it’s important to understand the admission requirements and guidelines. However, you shall be provided with information about the admission process at UMaT so you can prepare and submit your application accurately.

UMaT 

The University of Mines and Technology( UMaT) is a public university located in Tarkwa, in the Western Region of Ghana.

However, UMaT was established in 2004 and specializes in the fields of mining, petroleum, and related areas.

Likewise, the university offers undergraduate and postgraduate degree programs in fields related to mining engineering and geological engineering.

Including these fields geomatic engineering, petroleum engineering, and environmental and safety engineering.

Still, the academy’s vision is to come a center of excellence in mining and technology education in Africa and beyond.

Hence, the university is committed to promoting sustainable development through exploration, invention, and community engagement.

UMaT has another student body and is recognized as one of the top universities in Ghana.

UMaT Application Requirements

To be eligible for admission into UMaT, applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:

1. WASSCE/SSSCE Applicants: Applicants must have at least credit passes in six (6) subjects including English Language, Mathematics, and Integrated Science or Social Studies, and three (3) relevant elective subjects. The aggregate score should not exceed 36 (for WASSCE) or 24 (for SSSCE).

2. GCE/IGCSE/O-Level Applicants: Aspirants must have at least five( 5) credits in applicable subjects at the GCE/ IGCSE/ O- position, including English Language, Mathematics, and Science.

3. International Baccalaureate (IB) Applicants: aspirants must have a minimum of grade C in three( 3) applicable subjects at the Advanced position.

4. Mature Applicants: aspirants must be at least 25 times old and have at least three( 3) years of applicable work experience. They must also pass a mature student entrance examination conducted by UMaT.

Application Procedure

To apply for admission into UMaT for the 2023/2024 academic year, follow the steps however below:

1. Obtain an Application Form

Application forms can be obtained from any of the following sources:

• Any branch of the Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB)
• Branch of the Agricultural Development Bank (ADB)
• Any branch of the Zenith Bank
• The UMaT website

2. Pay the Application Fee

The application fee for UMaT for the 2023/2024 academic year is GH₵200.00 for Ghanaian applicants and US$100.00.

Hence, for international applicants, the fees, however, can be paid at any of the branches of the banks listed above

3. Complete the Application Form

Complete the application form accurately, attach all required documents (including academic certificates and transcripts), and submit it.

UMat Selection Process

After submitting your operation, UMaT will conduct a selection process to determine which aspirants will be admitted. Hence, the selection process generally includes the following ways:

1. Screening of Applications: UMaT will screen all operations to ensure that they meet the minimal entry conditions.

2. Entrance Examination/Interview: Depending on the program, aspirants may be needed to attend an entrance examination or interview to assess their academic background and provocation for studying the program.

3. Publication of Admission List: After the selection process, the school will publish a list of successful aspirants on its website and notice boards on the lot.

4. Acceptance of Admission: Successful aspirants must accept their admission by paying the needed freights and completing the application process before the deadline.
