The University of Regina administers many scholarships and awards that provide financial help to our students. Accepted students who are fully qualified with no conditions withholding their admission are eligible to apply for our scholarships, awards, or graduate teaching assistant positions.

The Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research has created an online scholarship application system, the Graduate Awards Portal (GAP), which allows student applicants to view all of the scholarships, awards, bursaries, fellowships, and prizes the University of Regina offers to graduate students. Interested students can apply for awards online, monitor and track the status of their scholarship application.

Now UR International has created two new entrance scholarships specifically for international students:

University of Regina International Entrance Scholarship

Level/Field of Study:

Students must have an early admission average of 85.00% or higher and be enrolled in 9 credit hours in the semester the award is presented.

Host Nationality: 

It is an International Scholarship

Scholarship Worth:

This award provides up to $200,000 annually. $3,000 is automatically awarded to undergraduate students on a Study Permit who are applying for admission directly from a secondary school (or equivalent) into a direct-entry undergraduate program.

University of Regina Circle of Scholars Entrance Scholarship

Level/Field of Study:

This award is given to the top three students in three specific regions identified annually throughout the world.

Host Nationality:

This Scholarship is unrestricted. Anyone can apply.

Scholarship Worth:

Assuming the student meets the criteria each year, they will receive automatically $5,000 each school year up to 4 years. In addition to the financial assistance, these students will be invited to meet with the President of the U of R each year for a Circle of Scholars event.

Eligibility Requirements

Students who are entering an Undergraduate Degree in the Fall Semester will be automatically eligible for this award. Please note that there are specific criteria for this award.

Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research (FGSR) Scholarships and Awards

Also, the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research (FGSR) are offering awards that are fully funded by Graduate Scholarship Base Fund (GSBF)

Holders of these awards are fully required to be admitted as a fully-qualified students in a Master’s or Doctoral degree program at the University of ReginaUniversity of Regina Graduate Fellowship (URGF) and University of Regina Graduate Awards (URGA) offers will only be given with an offer of admission to a thesis-based graduate program and including MFA’s.

Level/Field of Study:

The holders must have a minimum of a first-class average (equivalent to a minimum of 80%) at their previous University/institutions.

Host Nationality:

This Scholarship is unrestricted. It is an International Scholarship.

Scholarship Worth:

There are four funding levels:

  • $17,500 or more are awarded to holders of Major Awards
  • UR Graduate Fellowships (URGF) –Students can work up to 12 hours per week

Ph.D. URGF: A minimum of $20,000 per year for up to four year

Master’s URGF: A minimum of $10,000 per year for up to two years

  • UR Graduate Awards (URGA) – Students can work up to 12 hours per week

Ph.D. URGA: A minimum of $10,000 per year for up to four years

Master’s URGA: A minimum of $5,000 per year for up to two years

  • UR Graduate Scholarships (URGS) – hours of work are at the choice of the academic unit and the student

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Students must hold and maintain a minimum of 80% average.  An incomplete or failing grade from the previous semester’s work will automatically render the student ineligible for support.
  • Students who are, or will be, in post-program maintenance are NOT eligible for the funds.
  • GRST 800AA must be completed on or before 15th of February, or 15th of June, or 15th of October, in that particular semester they begin their program, in order to be eligible.
  • Recipients of the URGraduate Fellowships (URGF) and UR Graduate Awards (URGA) are required to be registered full-time in the semester in which the funding is to be received and, accordingly, are required to register in no fewer than 6 credit hours of the course or thesis work pertaining to their program during the corresponding semester when there are outstanding, (i.e. thesis or course credit) in their programs.
  • For students having between 3 and 5 credit hours of unfulfilled requirements remaining, the remainder will determine the number of credit hours in which they are obliged to register to qualify for funding.
  • Part-time students may be awarded UR Graduate Scholarships (URGS).
  • If a student wishes to change their route or program, the affected departments and faculty must agree on graduate funding.  Notification must be made to FGSR at the time of that change.
  • Students who are holding major awards such as national scholarships, i.e. NSERCSSHRC or CIHR, or equivalent (including major internal awards) are not eligible for the URGF funds.  Moreover, they are eligible for URGA and URGS funds.
  • Students who hold government funding that is intended to finance their studies are NOT eligible for these funds.
  • Students can work up to 12 hours a week during the semester the award is held. URGS holders may exceed this limit.

  • Click on the term you have applied for under the “Processed Applications” heading
    If your “Application Status” indicates: Incomplete; Items outstanding- we are missing required documents.
  • Be sure to review “Requirements” on your “Application Summary” (at the bottom of the page).
  • If the “Received” column is blank, it means we have not received the indicated document yet.
