The Schulich School of Law is located in Halifax, Nova Scotia, a city with a youthful spirit, rich history and scenic waterfront. The Schulich school of law is ranked among the world’s top 100 law schools in 2023/2024 by Times Higher Education, they offer both graduate and undergraduate programs in law. Annually the Schulich School of Law awards over $2 Million dollars to students, to assist with funding their legal education. Several entrance scholarships are offered to incoming students based upon a variety of criteria, including: academic excellence, community involvement, financial need, diversity, dedication to anti-racism, and interest in policy.
In addition to applying to the Schulich School of Law, the below listed scholarships require completion of the application form, which includes the required statements per scholarship.
1) The Law Foundation of Nova Scotia Scholarships
The Law Foundation of Nova Scotia offers four entrance scholarships for students entering the Schulich School of Law, Dalhousie University, renewable at that level if conditions of continued eligibility are met at the end of first and second year. There is also the possibility of further scholarships of lesser amounts from year to year, when funds are available. The Scholarships are tenable to any student regardless of nationality, domicile, gender or religion.
Eligibility
Applicants must have completed, with a superior academic average, at least two full years of an undergraduate degree at Dalhousie or another degree-granting college or university recognized by the Senate of Dalhousie University.
Have a declared desire to study law, and possess, in the opinion of the Scholarship Committee those qualities that are needed for the attainment of distinction in the legal profession.
The Law Foundation of Nova Scotia Scholarship Committee will be responsible for selecting from among the successful applicants those who most fully meet the required qualifications for the scholarships.
Funding
$21,500 per year ($64,500 in total) – Tenable at Schulich School of Law, Dalhousie University
Conditions for renewal
Maintaining a B+ average in law school.
If the scholarship is lost for second year, it will be renewed for third year if the required conditions are met.

2) The Arthur Allister MacBain Memorial Scholarship
The Arthur Allister MacBain Memorial Scholarship was established by John H MacBain, in memory of his father, Arthur Allister MacBain (JD Dalhousie, 1951). This renewable scholarship is awarded annually to a student entering first year at Schulich School of Law, Dalhousie University who has achieved academic excellence and has demonstrated significant involvement in extracurricular and community activities.
Eligibility
Applicants must have completed, with a superior academic average, at least two full years of an undergraduate degree at Dalhousie or another degree-granting college or university recognized by the Senate of Dalhousie University.
The applicant will also be required to demonstrate to the selection committee a history of involvement in and commitment to community service and extracurricular activities.
The Arthur Allister MacBain Memorial Scholarship selection committee will select the recipient of the Scholarship based on the criteria outlined above. An interview may be requested by the committee. Decisions of the committee are final.

3) Schulich Entrance Scholarships (Renewable)
In 2009, philanthropist Sir Seymour Schulich generously donated $20 million to Dalhousie Law School in recognition of the excellence of the education offered at the institution since 1883. In recognition of Sir Schulich’s support, Dalhousie Law School was renamed the Schulich School of Law.
Eligibility
Students must apply and be accepted to theJuris Doctor (JD) program at Dalhousie University.
The selection committee will evaluate each applicant on two of the following criteria: academic excellence, community involvement / public service, and financial need. Students must supply the requested statements relevant to the criteria on which they wish to be considered in the scholarship application form.

4) The J Gerald Godsoe Scholarship
Gerry Godsoe’s first love and most important contribution to Canada was in the field of public policy. In this role, he was a frequent advisor to governments. In the 1970s he advised on energy policies for the Province of Nova Scotia, chiefly in the field of offshore oil and gas, later becoming the Chair of the Maritime Provinces Coordinating Committee on Offshore Mineral Resources. In the early 1980s he was a special advisor and counsel to the government of Canada on the Constitution and offshore mineral rights. From 1983 to 1986 he served as full time Executive Director of the Royal Commission on Economic Development Project for Canada, “The Mcdonald Commission”, a commission that set the agenda for years to come.
The University’s aim in establishing the Godsoe Scholarship is to remember Gerry Godsoe by providing aid to bright, young Canadians, who will give as much to Canada in their time as Gerry did in his.
The J Gerald Godsoe Scholarship is awarded to scholars who have been accepted in the Juris Doctor (JD) Programme at Schulich School of Law, Dalhousie University and who have demonstrated, in the opinion of the Selection Committee, a particular interest in work on current issues of social and public policy facing Canadian society.

5) The Scotiabank Scholarship for Legal Studies
The Scotiabank Scholarship for Law Students encourages students to pursue anti-racism advocacy by supporting them to complete law school and enter the profession, Prefrence goes to students who self-identify as Black, Indigenous or persons of colour and who meet the awards criteria.
Eligibility
Be accepted into the JD Program at the Schulich School of Law
Scholarship is open to all candidates however, preference will be given toindividuals who self-identify as a member of the Black, Indigenous, or People of Colour (BIPOC) community
Provide a letter articulating how the student plans to use their legal education to pursue a passion for supporting and advocating for anti-racism in the legal sector, to be included on the online scholarship application form.
Demonstrated work or volunteer experience supporting BIPOC, marginalized or disadvantaged groups, through a resume, CV, or other documentation.
The Scotiabank Scholarship Committee will be responsible for selecting from among the successful applicants to Schulich School of Law, Dalhousie University, those who fully meet the required qualifications for the scholarships. A short list of candidates will be developed and an interview may be requested by the Scholarship Committee.

6) Schulich Entrance Scholarship (Non-Renewable)
In 2009, philanthropist Sir Seymour Schulich generously donated $20 million to Dalhousie Law School in recognition of the excellence of the education offered at the institution since 1883. In recognition of Sir Schulich’s support, Dalhousie Law School was renamed the Schulich School of Law. Students are the major beneficiaries of the donation. The greatest portion of the Schulich gift is dedicated to new scholarships.

Please note: It is University policy to credit scholarships automatically to tuition and fees. If this should result in an overpayment on your account, the portion in excess will be rebated to the students after the add/drop date. Students must be enrolled at Schulich School of Law in order to receive a scholarship.
