Here are the most notable scholarships in Norway:

• Norwegian Quota Scholarship Scheme
• International Masters Programmes at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU)

Norwegian Quota Scholarship Scheme

This funding stems from the Norwegian government. It aims for students from specific areas, which include:

• Developing countries in the South of the Quota Scheme 
• Countries of Central and East Europe 
• Countries of Central Asia

The goal of the Quota Scheme is to enhance capacity building for the students using education. It aims at ensuring the students add value to their home country in return. 

It usually offers awards for courses at the master’s and Ph.D. levels. In some cases, it touches specific bachelor’s degrees as well. There is no specific number of Scholarship awards. 

Benefits

The candidates will receive the same amount as a typical Norwegian student. The funding covers all costs for the educational program alone. 

However, 40% is a grant, while 60% is a loan. Nevertheless, keep in mind that the body waives the loan on returning to your home country after successful completion. Also, those who choose to stay in Norway or another country aside from their home country must pay the loan. 

The funding can last up to four years of the study program. Typically, it will not go beyond these four years. 

Eligibility

There are rules for admission under the Quota Scheme. The following are the priorities the scheme considers:

• The scheme works with Norwegian universities and colleges. All applications must come through an institution that works hand-in-hand with such universities or colleges. People applying individually will not receive admission into this scheme in most cases. 

Hence, every applicant should find out the institutions that work with Norwegian colleges. Visit the Norwegian institution website for this. 

• The Quota Scheme selects candidates from specific countries. If your home country is not on their list, you are not eligible. Kindly refer to the site for a list of eligible countries. 
• Applicants must apply directly from their home country after staying at least one year in that country. 
• The English Language is the standard for their study programs. Native English speakers will not have an issue. However, those who are not native English speakers must show their proficiency in the language.

Applicants should forward their applications to the International Office of the Norwegian College of their choice. All applications come in before the deadline.

International Masters Programmes at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU)

This funding is one of the most interesting of its kind. The Norwegian University of Science and Technology removes the tuition fee of international students. However, these students must be enrolling in a 2-year International master’s program taught in English at the university.

Benefits 

The scholarship deducts the tuition fee of the student alone. The candidates would then have to cater for their living expenses. 

Moreover, all those from EU/EEA/EFTA countries need enough funds to live in Norway and earn a student visa. 

Eligibility 

Here are some of the criteria to watch out for before applying:

• The candidate must be a student from abroad. 
• The applicants must have a bachelor’s degree in a field of study. The student must have finished their bachelor’s degree before starting the NTNU semester. 
• They must attain a grade point average of C at least. 
• All candidates must be sound in English with a good TOEFL/IELTS test score. They must not have taken these English tests over two years ago. However, the Cambridge test is different as it is valid for life.

International Summer School Scholarships at University of Oslo

International Summer School Scholarship is an award that the University of Oslo offers. It offers applicants from selected countries who wish to study a master’s or bachelor’s degree program. It runs during the International Summer School. 

The University gives a limited number of awards. Also, not all courses are eligible. You should check the site link for a complete list of eligible courses. 

Benefits 

The award covers the primary tuition fees and other expenses. These expenses are education-related, like Oslo transportation cards and reading materials for learning. 

It may also include a travel grant covering plane tickets to and from Oslo. However, this additional grant depends on your country and program. 

Eligibility 

The funding is open for students from Asia, Africa, Central America and South America, the USA, and Canada. Students from Oceania, Former Soviet Union states, EU and EEA Countries, Caucasus, and Balkans are also eligible.

Candidates must also meet the Academic and English Proficiency requirements. This requirement only applies to ISS courses. Keep in mind that there is high competition in the ISS field.
