You might have heard of mongooses. They look innocent, but they are not as innocent as they look. They are tough small carnivores that feast on snakes for breakfast. Mongoose are small, snake killing cat-like animals. They may look very small and slender, but don’t be fooled, these little creatures are very energetic and agile.
Mongoose are very smart and very wicked, they are not scared of anything. But they are not totally immune to snake bite, but the bite can’t kill them. They have a very high tolerance level for snake bite. They can survive the bite of an adult Cobra, this bite will kill a human in few minutes. When humans see cobras, they run, but when cobras see a mongoose, the cobra runs.
Even though they can survive the bite of snakes, they are not immune to the unpleasant side effects. For this reason, most mongoose will take the chance on an easier meal, but if there’s none, they will go for a snake as breakfast. Snakes are a very good source of protein.
These little slender creatures are primarily found in Africa, they are almost everywhere in the continent, but some of their species can be found in the Iberian Peninsula and in the southern part of Asia. They love living on tree tops and we also have some of them that are semi-aquatic, but a large majority of them are terrestrial animals.
They have some species that are striped, but they are mostly brown or Gray in colour. Mongooses usually have short heads on long bodies.
