How To Calculate Your Ovulation Cycle

The release of an egg from one of the ovaries is known as ovulation. When released, the egg travels to the fallopian tube where it resides for about 24 hours.

If sperm travels to the fallopian tube and fertilizes the egg, pregnancy develops. If the egg is not fertilized by sperm, it goes through the uterus and breaks down, preparing to leave the body during the next menstrual period.

An average person’s menstrual cycle is usually between 28 and 32 days. While some have a shorter cycle, others have much longer ones. In this article, we will show you how to calculate your ovulation circle.

According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, if a person’s monthly cycle is 28 days, ovulation occurs around 14 days before they expect to have their next period.

The day your bleeding starts marks the beginning of your cycle, while the last day of your cycle is the day before your next period begins. The majority of women ovulate between days 11 and 21 of their menstrual cycle. Ovulation does not usually happen on the same day each month, and it can occur a day or more before or after the scheduled date.

Ovulation dates can differ depending on the length and regularity of your menstrual cycle. This is normal and why you need to track your period for a few months to find the ideal fertilization window. Tracking your cycle helps determine the average length of your cycle. Step 1: Your menstrual cycle

When next your period starts, jot down the date. The following month when your period comes, do the same, then count the number of days in between this will give you your cycle length. Example:

The period starts =1st January, the next period starts 1st February.

Days in between (including 1st Jan but not 1st Feb)=31 days

This means your menstrual cycle length is 31

Step 2: Your ovulation date

Work out your ovulation and most fertile dates. Example:

First day of last period = 1st February 2023

Cycle length= 31

Ovulation= (17 days later)= 20th February 2023

Most fertile (16-18 days later)=19th and 21st February 2023

Once you calculate your ovulation date, you are most fertile the day before, during, and the day after.

Step 3: Your fertile dates

After mapping out your menstrual cycle length on your calendar, and working out your ovulation dates, your most fertile dates will be days 16-18.
