Jane Awindor (born April 10, 1987), better known by her stage name Efya, is a Ghanaian singer, songwriter, and actress from Kumasi. She is the daughter of Nana Adwoa Awindor, a filmmaker and celebrity host of the late television show Greetings From Abroad.

She has two brothers and a sister. The three of them are the children of Nana Adwoa Awindor, a filmmaker and celebrity.

Efya obtained her secondary education from Yaa Asantewaa Secondary School. She furthered her studies and graduated with a degree in theatre and music from the University of Ghana.

She relocated to Accra when her mother enrolled at the National Film and Television Institute (NAFTI) film school.

Efya gained international popularity after becoming the first runner up in Charterhouse’s Stars of The Future television show where she had lost to Irene Logan.

Due to her talent, she earned a 3-year record deal. The recording deal allowed her to be featured on the album titled Unveiled, which was released in South Africa.

Following the success of Unveiled, she continued making music as a solo artist. She eventually changed her stage name from Miss Jane to Efya before going solo.

During an interview with Modern Ghana, she revealed how she came up with her name and partly explained about going on a venture as a solo artist.

In 2015, Efya moved on as a solo artist and signed with a popular record label, One Nation Entertainment.

She had her debut mixtape T.I.N.T that was released in 2015 November. The name is an acronym for This Is Not The Album.

Efya’s album was descibed as a “powerful ballad that tells the story of love and heartbreak”.

In 2015, she had an interview with Alexis Stephens for the show MTV Iggy, Efya spoke about the album and mentioned that it will contain numerous love songs and added that the album will talk about topics of hate and pain. Efya highlighted that the album is from her personal experiences.

Efya released her debut studio album in January 2015. The album became a smash hit and grew her fan base across the continent.

Efya had more eyes looking her way after she was featured by the Nigerian musician Wizkid after he released his single “Daddy Yo”.  The vocals were uncredited but Efya makes an appearance in the music video.

Efya continues growing her brand and has recently released new work featuring Tiwa Savage, the song gained momentum after it was posted on social media by Sarkodie.

Speaking on a Q&A session monitored by MyNewsGh.com, the singer attributed the reason why she’s not married to the fact that marriage is not what is used to be.

Despite being pressured by fans and friends to get married because they feel age is catching up with her, Efya feels that, the purpose of marriage has changed and it’s not what it used to be.

However, the songstress has not ruled out getting married in the future.

Efya is an ambassador for the Awal Children of the Future Foundation (ACOTF), it is a nonprofit organization that focuses on helping victims of physical and emotional trauma.

They work closely with homeless people in the country.

The foundation consists of eight different musical ambassadors, including Sarkodie, Ruff n Smooth and Yaw Siki.
