The Council for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (COTVET) is a national body set up by an Act of Parliament of the Republic of Ghana (Act 718 of 2006) to coordinate and oversee all aspects of Technical and Vocational Education and Training in the country. It is also to formulate national policies on skills development across pre-tertiary and tertiary levels of education, in both the formal and informal sectors.

Mission

To coordinate and oversee a TVET system that produces globally competitive workforce through quality oriented and demand-driven learning for national development.

Vision

To be a world-class leader in coordinating skills development.

Objectives

Our major objective is to formulate policies for skills development across the broad spectrum of pre-tertiary and tertiary education, formal, informal and non-formal sectors.

COTVET has been tasked with the following functions:

 

  • Formulate policies on skills development
  • Coordinate, harmonize and supervise activities of both public and private providers
  • Rationalize assessment and certification system
  • Quality assure delivery within TVET
  • Maintain a national database on TVET
  • Facilitate research and development in TVET
  • Source funding to support TVET activities
  • Facilitate cooperation between training providers and industry
  • Advise Government on matters related to TVET management
