Almost everyone appreciates a long hot shower, and it’s true that warm water has its advantages. Turning the dial in the opposite direction may not sound attractive, but if you can grin and bear it, there are a slew of very amazing (excuse the pun) perks to be had. If daily ice cold shower isn’t enough of a recommendation, we don’t know what is.
Here are tips to finding out if bathing cold water is good for you.
1. The element of surprise.
If you’re not feeling bold, the good news is that you don’t have to take your shower in cold water the entire time. Switching to cold for the last few minutes is really significantly more beneficial, giving your body a natural adrenaline spike that will wake you up and leave you energetic for the day ahead.
2. Lifts Depression.
The ancient practice of exposing our bodies to various temperatures for medicinal purposes is known as hydrotherapy. When we immerse ourselves in cold water, our blood flow to the brain increases, as does the release of the hormone norepinephrine, which provides us with a natural high. I guess that explains why sea swimming makes you feel so good!
3. Get your blood flowing.
Our bodies’ natural response to cold water is to pump blood through our arteries, increasing the efficiency of our hearts and ensuring that our important organs receive adequate oxygen. This is generally wonderful news for our entire body.
Give it a shot, and you’ll soon see how beneficial bathing in cold water can be.
