Whether you’re starting your college journey for the first time, transferring from another institution, or considering going back to college, applying is your first step to becoming a Ball State Cardinal.
There are ways to apply to Ball State applicants may choose between the Ball State applications or the Common App, which allows you to apply to multiple colleges at once.
The Common App is only available to new, first-time (domestic and international) students entering the fall.
Application Deadlines
Admission to Ball State is quite selective, and we carefully evaluate all applications individually before giving admission.
We recommend someone apply by the priority deadline to ensure fullest consideration for scholarships and your preferred semester of enrollment.

At the latest, your application must be completed two weeks before the start of the semester you’re planning to enroll.
Therefore, all students applying for financial aid and scholarships or admission to the Honors College have additional deadlines to keep in mind. See all dates and deadlines below.
Priority Deadlines
1. Spring semester — December 1
2. Summer semester — April 1
3. Fall semester — March 1*
4. December 1 to receive the fullest consideration of scholarships
Semester Start Dates
1. Spring 2024 — classes begin January 2024
2. Summer 2024 — classes begin May 2024
4. Fall 2024 — classes begin August 2024
Instructions and Criteria for Application
New students should complete the same undergraduate application to Ball State. But your admission criteria depend on which type of applicant you are offering.

Admission Requirements
To be eligible for admission to the Ball State Graduate School, you must have a bachelor’s degree or higher from an institution recognized by a USDE accrediting association.
Some doctoral and specialist degree programs (but not all) require a master’s degree from an institution recognized by a USDE accrediting association.
GPA
To be eligible for regular admission to a licensure, graduate certificate, or master’s degree program, you must meet one criterion below:
1. To be eligible you have a minimum of a 2.75 GPA from your undergraduate degree-granting institution
Applicants whose GPA falls below the 2.75 minimum may also be eligible for probationary admission.
Probationary admission needs approval from the program director and dean of the Graduate School.
Programs may also choose to not allow probationary admissions in their programs. All you have to do is connect with the graduate advisor for your program of interest to discuss eligibility.
2. You must earn at least 9 graduate credit hours with a minimum of a 3.0 GPA
3. If you have a conferred master’s or doctoral degree from an institution recognized by a USDE accrediting association
Ball State awards a wide variety of scholarships to a student each year to reward their incoming students.
For their academic, athletic, and creative achievement and shows leadership skills. Top-ability students in Indiana are expected to complete the Indiana Academic Honors Diploma.
